The North American Mission Board, A Southern Baptist Convention entity supported by the Cooperative Program and the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering®, assists Southern Baptists in their task of fulfilling the Great Commission (Matt 28:19-20) in the United States, Canada and their territories through a national strategy for sharing Christ, starting churches and sending missionaries, in cooperation with Acts 1:8 Partners.

Our History

On October 19-20, 1949, seven Baptist churches from northern California met for the First Annual Meeting of Sierra Butte Baptist Association. The churches were from Chico, Crescent City, Gridley, Live Oak, Olivehurst, Oroville, Susanville and Yuba City. They had begun relationships to help churches reach people for Christ, establish churches, and provide ministries that would help the churches work together to do things they could not have done alone.

Today, the Association has become an association of 30 churches in the six counties of Butte, Colusa, Glenn, Sutter, Tehama and Yuba. The area is smaller and the number of churches larger, but the mission remains. We are an association of Southern Baptist Churches who cooperate together with the California Southern Baptist Convention and the Southern Baptist Convention to reach the world with the Gospel of Christ, strengthening local churches, starting new churches and working together in carrying out the Great Commission and the Great Commandments of our Lord through the Cooperative Program of World Missions.

Youth Migrant Week - It just gets better!

The Association received an Email from one of our camp participants and we had to pass it on -

"We just received this from our son-in-law David. One of the kids he brought up to Yuba City for the mission trip was Jesus. Tagging was his line of work until he realized that his life style was going to get him killed. So he got out of East L.A. and somehow (a God thing?)
found David and his college group. Long story short he got saved on the mission trip and was baptized in our pool. For some reason he went home with the Oregon group and he did this artwork on the wall of their youth room before he flew home. He is Hispanic and to watch him Friday night worshipping with the people at the camp was really moving. We will be praying for this young man and his friend, Cameron, who is also a new believer with the same background (only he is a tatoo artist!?!) who also went on the mission trip."

SBBA Men's Retreat

Our first ever Men’s Retreat, August 27-28, 2010, will be held at Woodleaf Young Life Conference Grounds near Challenge. Our speaker will be Maury Robertson with music by Bob Comarsh, worship leader at River Valley. Cost will be only $75 for the weekend.

Plans are underway for our 15th Annual Women’s Retreat September 17-19, at Springs of Living Water in Richardson Springs. Our Conference Leader is our very own, Riette Stringfellow, wife to DOM, Tom Stringfellow; our theme: Leaving a Christian Legacy.

Sierra Butte Bible Institute Kicks Off Fall Session

The Sierra Butte Bible Institute is designed to provide training opportunities for our lay leaders. This training will equip our leaders to support existing churches and assist in new starts.

The FALL Session will begin on Monday, September 13th, at 7pm - 9pm, with two five week classes running concurrently, and will be held at First Baptist Church,100 Vermont Street, Gridley, CA 95948.

The two classes offered will be "INTRODUCTION TO BIBLE STUDY" and "YOUTH MINISTRY TRAINING". Please refer to "Ministries" tab for more info.
